Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask- Is It Worth The Hype?

I’ve had a few people ask me if the Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask is worth the price tag of $48. I’ve struggled back and forth when deciding to do this review. Why? Well all of the Summer Fridays Mask are pretty much cult favorites. Instagram is heavily saturated with pictures of the Jet Lag Mask and everyone raves about it. I feel like I may be the 1% who feels in different about the mask. The common question everyone wants to know Is It Worth The Price and The Hype? If you’re interested in knowing, Keep Reading!

Being the mask junkie that I am, I was really interested in trying out the Jet Lag Mask. The opportunity arose in late December (2018) when Sephora featured a mini mask duo of the Ouai Mask Set x Summer Fridays. The set included a 1 oz Jet Lag Mask along with a 1 oz Ouai Deep Conditioner hair mask. This limited edition set retailed for $22, thus making each 1 oz mask $11 each. The set also included a cute headband to wear while masking that reads “Chillin Out Maskin Relaxin”.

Review

I’m here to give you my honest opinion. I've had the Jet Lag mask since the end of December. I've used it multiple times. When testing out a new product like a mask I can pretty much tell if I like it within the first or second use. But to be fair for testing purposes, I’ll incorporate whatever the new product that I’m testing out multiple times by using it within different routines and with various products.

Being that so many people raved about the Jet Lag Mask I had pretty high hopes for the mask. I did have one friend who tried out a sample and thought it was just okay. She and I usually like the same products, so when she stated that she thought it was just “okay” I really began to really wonder if the mask was just hyped up. Even with that being said, I decided to try the mask multiple tries prior to making a final decision.

Scent/ Consistency

My initial thought while I was applying the mask is that the texture is creamy and this consistency is very much equivalent to a heavy face moisturizer. The scent of the mask is a light peppermint. I didn’t find the scent overpowering or offensive. The mask was pretty easy to work into the skin and it doesn’t take much effort. Some people have mentioned that the mask tingles for the first couple of minutes of the application. I didn’t experience this. My skin is not sensitive and very much used to different actives and acids.

Results

Immediately after applying the mask my skin appeared a little brighter, felt smoother and provided a subtle glow. BUT then…it quickly faded from there! Somewhere after 10 minutes after applying the mask my skin still felt soft, but the glow had pretty much faded. I’ve tried applying a minimal amount of product and also slathering my face in the mask. But the results were the same afterwards.

The majority of the times I used the mask it was used as an overnight mask. The morning after using this mask my face doesn’t feel any smoother or softer in comparison to any of the night creams that I own. In fact it actually felt drier. This is where my problem lies with the mask. It provides immediate results, but I don’t find them to last very long! I’ve used heavy night creams that have provided me with longer lasting results for less than $48. Is worth the hype? For me I would say not. At least not as an overnight mask.

However…

Being that I have normal to combination skin that is much oiler in the summer time- I believe that I may like this mask to use in the summer when the weather is humid and hot.

Although, I don’t love this mask as an overnight mask, I do think this would be great for travel. How? Why? When in flight I’m always looking for extra hydration. I’m not one of those people that’s brave enough to use a sheet mask or a full on mask while on an airplane. The Jet Lag Mask would be a great mask to use that can provide hydration, but will not make you look oily. Also, the mask does not need to be washed off and absorbs into the skin very well.

Based on these reasons I don’t find the mask to be a waste. I wish it would have worked out to be a better overnight mask for me. But I’m not going to give up on it and find a way to make it work for me.

Is It worth the hype?

Based on everything that I mentioned. I don’t think it’s worth the hype and full price point of $48. I don’t love the mask, but at the same time I don’t hate it. Being that I feel so indifferent to the Jet Lag Mask, I’ve been on the fence about trying the other two masks from the line (OverTime Mask and R&R Mask). Now that I have the mask, I’m going to figure out a way to make it work for me. I know many people are going to disagree with me regarding my thoughts of this mask. But honestly I’ve tried less expensive masks that hydrate better.

I know many have tried this mask and love it. Could it be that I’m using it wrong? If you have any tips or alternative ways on how you use this mask, please comment below!
