Tatcha The Silk Canvas Primer Review

Described as a multi-tasking primer for the face, eyes and lips. The primer claims to do the following:

  • to blur the skin
  • prime the skin prior to makeup
  • protect the skin as acting as a barrier between make up and the skin
  • provide anti-aging properties Hadasei-3 *a mixture of super-foods, green tea, rice, and algae.

I received the Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer in one my monthly subscriptions of the Sephora Playbox (click for previous review) as a deluxe size sample. The sample size provided me with an ample amount of product and time to try out the product. The past month I tried out the Silk Canvas Primer alone along with various products over it. As a lover of the Tatcha Brand and its products, I was very eager to try out the primer.

Directions: Use a rice-size amount for the whole face. Gently massage the balm onto the face and allow the silk to melt into a second skin before applying foundation.

Tatcha The Silk Canvas Primer

Review

Applying the product feels almost like applying a light face moisturizer. The primer melts into the skin very nicely. But honestly, I don't think the primer did much for me. The primer helped my skin to feel smooth and only provided a light blur. As someone who has Normal/Combo skin, my goal for using a primer is to help mattify my skin. During the summer months my t-zone gets super oily and I don't think the Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer did much to combat my oils. The primer itself is more on the moisturizing side. With that being said, this primer would probably be best for someone that normal/dry or just normal skin.

The Tatcha Silk Canvas Protective Primer contains 0.7oz or product and retails for $52.00. I honestly think that price tag is very high. Especially with so many other brands on the market that have great performing primers. As I say with most things, if you're on the fence about buying something, Test it out! But the formula and the packaging of the primer could pose a challenge due to the texture.

Being that I have a deluxe size sample, and still have plenty of product left, I'll continue to use it. My current review is based on my now (normal/combo) during the summer months. As the weather changes in the fall/winter months my skin gets drier. I have a feeling my thoughts on the product will probably change while using it during that time of the year. Keep out a look out in the winter months where I'll give my thoughts on using it when my skin is normal.
