Beauty Prep For Vacation: 101

So, my next vacation is booked and planned for this week! The weeks leading up to a vacation I do a mental check list of what beauty services I need to do to prepare. I don't consider myself to be the most high maintenance, but I believe in self care in the form taking care of myself - especially when I'm preparing for a trip.

This quick post will detail how I prepare for vacations from A-Z.

Brows

I don't get my brows waxed (thanks to over plucking in my younger years :( ), but I do get them tinted. The tinting helps my brows to appear darker, fuller and helps me spend less time getting ready!

I've been going to the Brow Bar at Benefit Cosmetics for years to get my brows tinted. The brow services are usually offered at the free standing Benefit stores or inside some department stores that carry Benefit Cosmetics (i.e. Macy's, Bloomingdale's, etc.). I've been to multiple locations and have always been happy with the services that I received.

On an average I spend up to 10 minutes to do my brows on a daily. I love getting my brows tinted as it makes it easier to ready while on vacation. The tinted color process is personalized to each person and lasts up to 3-4 weeks. The longevity depends on how you treat your brows.

After the service they offer to clean up your brows with concealer and fill in any sparse areas of your brows with the Benefit products for no additional cost.

Costs: $20-$23

Body

For my overall body I enjoy doing a nice body scrub or exfoliation in the shower prior to travel. This is especially true when I'm traveling to a warmer climate. I want my skin to be as smooth as possible. I've tried a few scrub bars from Lush that I really like.

Face

As someone who masks on the regular (3x per week), I do think its important for me to do an intensive mask prior to vacation that correlates to the climate that my skin will be in. For example, if I was traveling to a colder climate or region that is known to have less humidity in the air, I would aim to do a hydrating mask.

Hair

The topic of hair when vacationing can be a little tricky for me. I have natural curly hair. I love wearing my hair straight, but it doesn't work for most vacation due to humidity, the pool and beach. When vacationing to such humid climates I tend to keep my hair curly or just leave it in a bun. In the future, I would love to try out some braided styles as they are very low maintenance and provide less manilupation the hair.

Nails

Please tell me I'm not the only one who sticks to only a few different shade range of colors when picking out a nail polish. My go to shades  are usually white, nude, or pinks. This also stays the same when I'm going on vacation.

When I'm going on vacation I tend to go with a gel/shellac manicure due to its longevity. One of my pet peeves is when my nail polish chips!

Lately, my go pink nail polish is Fiji by Essie . It's the perfect shade of pink and I think it looks great on all skin tones!

Waxing

Let me tell you, waxing is not for the faint of heart. It's something that you really need to adjust to and once you do you'll never look back. I go to European Wax Center. They have multiple chain stores, I've been going to the same store and seeing the same wax specialist since I started.

What initially drew me into to European Wax Center was that they offered the first wax for free! They use the hard wax technique. The hard wax technique involves the removal of the hair without strips. In general, hard wax is used to remove hair in the bikini, underarm and face area; soft wax is usually used on larger areas of the body such as the leg or armpit.

For follow-up care after my wax I use the Smooth Me - Ingrown Hair Wipes . These wipes are infused with alpha and beta hydroxy acids to support cell turnover and can be used all over the body (except the face). They help to prevent future ingrown hair along with treating current ingrown hairs.

Tip: To make purchasing the wipes more cost efficient, I cut them in half so they last longer!
