Face & Body Sunscreen Routine

Who has a sunscreen routine? I do! I do! Years ago I would’ve  thought the concept of having multiple sunscreens to be more than extra. As my knowledge of skincare as increased, I’ve realized how important sunscreen is along with reapplying. If you’re interested in seeing why I have so many sunscreens and how I use them on my face & body, keep reading!

Sunscreen is a staple product that everyone should be using. To ensure that you’ll use something like sunscreen, I think you actually have to enjoy using it. Personally I have multiple sunscreens that are used for certain situations and times through my routine. So by now you should know that you should be using sunscreen daily and reapplying. I’m not going to go regarding the constant battle of mineral sunscreen vs physical sunscreen. For me at least right now, my main focus is to wear sunscreen daily and to reapply throughout the day.

Supergoop City Sunscreen Serum SPF 30

Price: $42 for 2oz.

I picked up this sunscreen at Marshall’s for $17 or $18. I think the $42 price tag is a little expensive. The mini was also purchased at Marshall’s for about $6 or $7. I really like the serum formula. The formula is a consistency similar to a moisturizer. It’s not too heavy and not too thick. I find the formula just right for my normal to combination skin and absorbs well into the skin. I see this formula working great for those with dry to normal skin textures.

Ingredients: Purified Water, Cyclomethicone, Isostearyl Neopentanoate, Glycerin, Ceteareth–20, Polypropylene, Cetearyl Alcohol, Xanthan Gum, d-Panthenol, Octanohydroxamic acid, Caprylyl Glycol, Silica, Triacontanyl PVP, Cetyl Dimethicone, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, PEG-40 Stearate, Tocopherol, Disodium EDTA, Pentylene Glycol, Panthenyl Triacetate, Sodium Lactate, Lactic Acid, Serine, Urea, Sorbitol, Sodium Chloride, Allantoin, Oleyl Alcohol, Ethyl Linoleate.

Drunk Elephant Umbra™ Sheer Physical Daily Defense Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 30

Price: $34 for 3oz

The Drunk Elephant Umbra Sheer Sunscreen is the thickest formula out of all the formulas mentioned. This is formula that is probably best suited for someone with a dry skin texture. Being that I have this mini I tend to use it more on days when I just at home. Wearing sunscreen on the days I’m just at home is something I recently introduced into my routine.

Supergoop Unseen Broad Spectrum SPF 40

Price: 1.7 oz for $32

The Supergoop Unseen is an invisible light weight sunscreen. The texture is very similar to silicone primer. It’s great to wear prior to applying make-up. I believe the formula provides a mattifying effect, but its’s not totally matte. This formula provides protection from Blue Light (the light from phones, screens, computer) and I honestly believe it helps with oil control.

Directions: apply a dime size after you cleanse, tone and moisturize- but before you apply your makeup. It’s recommended to reapply SPF every two hours when exposed to the sun

How I Use: I use the Unseen Sunscreen as my first sunscreen protection within my routine and almost as a primer.  After I apply my skincare, but before my makeup I apply the unseen. This is my go to sunscreen during the warm and humid temperatures. This particular formula has been my lifesaver throughout the summer. I also know that this formula is something that I can use during colder climates.

Ingredients: Avobenzone 3%, Homosalate 8%, Octinoxate 4.5%, Octisalate 5% Isododecane, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Dimethicone/Bis-Isobutyl PPG-20 Crosspolymer, Isohexadecane, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Meadowfoam Estolide, Polyester-8, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Lithothamnion Calcareum Extract, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Jojoba Esters, Diethylhexyl Syringylidenemalonate, Mannitol, Olibanum, Lecithin, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Diatomaceous Earth, Zinc Sulfate, Silica, Tocopherol.

REAPPY

Supergoop! X Rebecca Taylor Defense Refresh Setting Mist Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 50

Price: 3.4 oz for $28 and 1oz for $12

You may be asking yourself why I have both a mini and a full size of the same version of sunscreen. I use the Defense Refresh Setting Mist after I apply my makeup for extra sun protection. The mini size is often kept on my desk at work. I use it to reapply if I go outside during my lunch hour and at the end of the work day for my commute home.

Applying sunscreen is in important, but in the past I was never really great about reapplying. The Defense Mist is such an easy formula to work with and travel friendly that it makes it very easy to reapply. To use, I shake the bottle very well and spray liberally. Immediately after I gently press the formula into my skin. I notice if I fail to do this step I tend to have a few white spots on my face.

Ingredients: Alcohol Denat., Butyloctyl Salicylate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Isododecane, Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Stem/Leaf Oil, Mentha Viridis (Spearmint) Leaf Oil, PVP, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Silica Silylate, Water.

Body

Trader Joe’s Spray Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 50+

Price: $5.99 for 60z

I picked up the Trader Joe’s Spray sunscreen on a whim while shopping there a few months ago. I’ve been looking for a good body sunscreen for a while that’s easy to use. Conventional sunscreens that have textures similar to lotions and moisturizers requires more time and energy to apply. I use this spray formula before leaving the house in the morning after I apply my moisturizer. The spray formula applies evenly and doesn’t leave my skin feeling greasy or sticky. I recently packed this on one of my beach outings and I found it so easy to apply -especially hard to reach places like my back.

I will definitely be repurchasing this sunscreen! The price and formula is unbeatable.

Ingredients: Active Ingredients: Avobenzone 3.0%, Homosalate 15.0%, Octisalate 5.0%, Oxybenzone 6.0%. Inactive Ingredients: Acrylates/Octylacrylamide Copolymer, Alcohol Denat., Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Fragrance, Glycerin, Mineral Oil, Tocopherol.

SOL DE JANEIRO Bum Bum Sol Oil SPF 30

Price: $38 for 3oz

I like to describe this as a party in a bottle. The oil smells like the classic Bum Bum Cream, but contains glitter. The oil absorbs well into the skin and doesn’t feel sticky. This is not the type of sunscreen oil that I would use daily. But it’s very nice for vacation or daytime events. The glitter can be a bit much and transfers. I definitely splurged on this purchase. It’s a nice product but it’s not a product that I can say you need. I also wish the bottle was at least 4oz for the price tag.

Ingredients: Homosalate, Octocrylene, Octisalate Avobenzone, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Neopentyl Glycol Diheptanoate, Octyldodecanol, Fragrance, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Euterpe Oleracea (Açaí) Fruit Oil, Mica, Silica, Theobroma Grandiflorum (Cupuaçu) Seed Butter, Tin Oxide, Tocopherol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Iron Oxides, Titanium Dioxide.
